VELASQUEZ SIGNS NLI WITH CONCORDIA...........

Cabrillo sophomore Tyler Velasquez has signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Concordia University in Portland, OR. Velasquez is the third Cabrillo player to sign with the NAIA school this spring, following Justyn Searle and Thomas Pierce.

Velasquez was the MVP of the Coast Conference South division averaging 14 pts/gm and 6.3 assists/gm.. Velasquez, a native of Colorado Springs, CO, was also an All-State selection along with Aaron Short. The 5'10" point guard lead the Seahawks to two Coast Conference South Championships and an impressive 23-1 record during his two year career in Aptos.

 

 

SHORT, PIERCE AND SEARLE SIGN SCHOLARSHIPS..

Aaron Short has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to attend the University of the Pacific in the Fall of 2012.

Thomas Pierce and Justyn Searle have both signed NLI's to continue their college experience at Concordia University of Portland, OR.

Searle, 6'9" 220lbs, was an important part of the Seahawks success this year as he did much of the dirty work around the basket. The sophomore center from Salt Lake City, UT started at center and averaged nearly six rebounds/gm and nearly 2 blocked shots.

SHORT AND PIERCE MAKE VERBAL COMMITMENTS...

Seahawk sophomore guard Aaron Short has verbally commited to the University of the Pacific. Short, 6'3" 220, was a 1st Team All-State selection as well as a Coast Conference South 1st Team selection for the undefeated Champion Seahawks. Short will sign scholarship papers and a National Letter of Intent (NLI) in April with Pacific. Pacific is a member of the Big West Conference and is located in Stockton, CA. Short averaged 15.8pts/gm and 7.4 rebs/gm this season.

Cabrillo College sophomore forward Thomas Pierce, 6'5" 210, has made a verbal commitment to Concordia University of Portland Oregon. Concordia University is a member of the Cascade Conference and is a NAIA Div 1 member institution. Pierce had an outstanding year for the Seahawks averaging nearly a double double on the year with 10.2 pts/gm and 9.5 rebs/gm. Pierce's toughness and versatility was a key component for the 24-4 Seahawks. He will sign scholarship papers and a NLI as well.

VELASQUEZ, SHORT NAMED TO ALL-STATE TEAM.....

Cabrillo's Tyler Velasquez and Aaron Short were named to the CCCAA All-State team. Their selections mark the first time in Cabrillo history two players have been named All-State in the same year.

Velasquez, a 5'10" Sophomore from Colorado Springs, CO., was the Coast Conference South MVP averaging 14 pts and 6.3 assists/gm. for the Seahawks.

Short, a 6'3" Sophomore from Reno, NV., was a 1st Team All-Coast Conference South selection and lead the Seahawks to an undefeated (12-0) season averaging 15.8 pts and 7.4 rebs/gm.. Both, Velasquez and Short, went 23-1 in their two seasons at Cabrillo in the Coast Conference South with two Conference Championships.

 

 
   
SEAHAWKS TO HOST FIRST PLAYOFF GAME IN SCHOOL HISTORY......
The Cabrillo College Seahawks will open the NorCal Regional Playoffs in Aptos for the first time in school history. Cabrillo seeded #8 will play the #9 seed Foothill College (Los Altos Hills) on Friday Feb. 24th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm. The Seahawks enter the play-offs with a 14 game winning streak. The second win of the streak was against Foothill in Los Altos Hills on Dec. 30th. The Seahawks won the game 48-47. Foothill is a member of the Coast Conference North Division and finished in 4th place with a 6-6 conference record and 18-10 overall.

CABRILLO'S VELASQUEZ EARNS COAST CONFERENCE SOUTH MVP HONORS.............

Cabrillo sophomore point guard Tyler Velasquez (5'10", 180) was voted Coast Conference South Division Most Valuable Player. Velasquez averaged 14 pts./gm and 6.3 assists/gm. He is the 3rd Cabrillo player to be named conference MVP in the last six years (Aaron Patterson '07 and Markus Duran '11). More importantly, Velasquez has been one of the key leaders for the Seahawks. His leadership has been one of the reasons why Cabrillo has been successful. Velasquez has an impressive 23-1 record as the starting point guard for the Seahawks.
Aaron Short (6'3", 210) was named to the 1st team All-Coast Conference South list. The sophomore averaged 15.8 pts./gm and 7.4 rebs/gm. Like Velasquez, Short help guide the Seahawks to 2 Conference Championships as a starter.
Frank Rogers (6'9", 215) was voted 2nd team honors as he averaged 10pts/gm and 5.6 rebs/gm. Rogers, while only a Freshman, has signed early to play at the University of San Francisco in the Fall.
Thomas Pierce (6'5", 205) was an Honorable Mention selection. He posted impressive numbers as the sophomore nearly averaged a double double for the Seahawks with 10.2 pts/gm and 9.5 rebs/gm.
