|OFFER AN INTERNSHIP|
On-the-Job Training (OJT) programs train employees within the context of a real workplace. This hands-on training is often supported by formal classroom training. On site, a professional trainer or experienced employee serves as the instructor or master trainer. There are several different OJT programs to suit any given setting, such as internships, apprenticeships, and co-op programs.
Cabrillo offers Cooperative Work Experience Education which is a structured method of combining classroom-based education with practical work experience. Students can get college credit for learning hands on in the workplace. For more information, please see the Cabrillo Cooperative Work Experience Education website: http://cabrillo.edu/academics/cwee
Cabrillo is developing an Apprenticeship program in Information Technology (IT). The requirements are still being developed. If you are a student in the Computer and Information Systems (CIS) department and you are interested in an "Earn while you learn" opportunity, please contact Gerlinde Brady or Matt Weis.
On the Job Success Stories
The CTE advisory committees act as a liaison between the college district and potential employers and develop recommendations to improve CTE programs. Each CTE program seeks to have extensive business and industry involvement, and so each CTE program has a specific advisory committee to help programs keep current with relevant labor market needs and industry trends in its sector. Contact the Department Chair of the program you are interested in for more information.
"In my internship, I got to use my physics, chemistry and computer science skills as well as my knowledge of biology. I learned that this is common in the biology field and that strengthened my belief that biology may be the field for me. "

"The benefits are clear and the rewards are immediate. I earned college credits while gaining valuable experience. These courses were not only the most challenging I've participated in at Cabrillo College, they're also by far the most rewarding."
— Steve Slaney, Student
"I was excited because I knew that I had a great opportunity to learn something new in a real life environment. To me, I feel that my internship has been the most beneficial experience I have encountered throughout my academic career."
